Upland Restoration

Corporate lawns and barren or eroded sites can be managed to restore wildlife habitat,

control erosion or reduce maintenance costs. Barren areas can be planted with tree

seedlings and shrubs to help "jump-start" the process of forest succession. A high

maintenance turf-grass lawn can be replaced with a low-maintenance prairie meadow

comprised of native grasses and wildflowers, to reduce mowing costs and eliminate

the need for pesticides and fertilizers. The use of native plantings to restore or improve

the "naturalness" of a site can increase public receptiveness to any project.

Streambank Stabilization

Bioengineering techniques can be utilized to stabilize eroding streambanks to improve

fish habitat. These techniques typically include biologs, faschines, brush mats, live stakes,

and crib walls. Bioengineering solutions are significantly less costly than engineered

structures and can be used to aid in regulatory compliance, enhance aesthetic appeal

and solve bank erosion problems.

Wildlife Habitat Enhancement

Designing site plans to include wildlife habitat creation or enhancement has become

increasingly popular as public awareness of environmental issues has grown. Facilities

such as golf courses, parks, residential, and commercial development can incorporate

natural plantings including prairie meadows, forested or shrub barriers, and ponds or

wetlands into their site plan to increase wildlife habitat.
